Early Life and Education of Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata was born on December 28, 1937, in Bombay (Mumbai),in a traditional Parsi family.. He pursued a degree in architecture from Cornell University and later completed a management program at Harvard Business School. His early education laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors in business and philanthropy. During his seven-year stay in the US, he learned to drive cars and fly planes.

Career

In 1962, after his grandmother became ill and asked for him, Tata went back to India. At that point, he received an invitation to join the Tata Group in JRD Tata, a cousin from a separate family line. Tata began working for the Tata Group in Jamshedpur, eastern India, as a technical assistant to the manager of a steel mill.
