OpenAI unveils o1, a new AI model trained for ‘reasoning’: Here’s what it can do better

OpenAI has recently introduced a innovative AI model series known as o1, internally specified  to as “Strawberry.” This new model has introduced to increase  reasoning capabilities, making steps in complex problem-solving and analytical tasks. in this blog post we will explore about the the unique features and potential applications of the o1model.

Advanced Reasoning Capabilities

The o1 model series has Developed to be experts in complex and rare problem spaces, particularly in fields requiring deep contextual understanding. This model is an expert in mathematics, physics, and scientific research, where it can perform tasks that are helpful for Ph.D. students and coders.

Also these model’s ability to reason through multi-step problems and provide accurate solutions marks a significant upgrade over previous AI models.

Chain-of-Thought Reasoning

One of the important features of the o1 model is its chain-of-thought reasoning capability, mainly useful in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.) fields. This enables the model to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable steps, therefore improving its problem-solving accuracy.

Multimodal Capabilities

This model not only generates the text based result. It now understands and generates images, videos, and other media types, making it a multimodal model. These features increase interactions and user experience.

New Training and Optimization Techniques

According to a Recent OpenAI blog post, the o1 model has a new class of capabilities. It can solve more challenging science and math problems. It also performs and solves complex coding problems.

In the previous model GPT-4o  qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), correctly solved only 13% of the problems.

The o1 model scored 83%  on the qualifying exam for the International Mathematics Olympiad, OpenAI said in its blog post. With an 83 percent score, o1 places among the top 500 students in the US in the math olympiad qualifier known as AIME.

Safety and Ethical Considerations

Now OpenAI concentrated the safety in the development of o1, it can do advanced content filtering and reduce the generation of harmful or inappropriate content, also in this model is trained to understand and follow the safety guidelines, which performs higher in safety tests compared to previous models.

How to use the o1 and o1-mini?

ChatGPT Plus and Team users will be able to access o1 models in ChatGPT and can manually select the model picker. OpenAI said its weekly rate limits will be 30 messages for for o1-preview and 50 for o1-mini. Also mentioned in their blog “We are working to increase those rates and enable ChatGPT to automatically choose the right model for a given prompt.”

The API cost for developers to access the o1 preview model is $15 per 1 million input tokens and $60 per 1 million output tokens.
